I doubt you care about the answer, but here it is. Yes, I knew.

Estate tax, as currently legislated, impacts more than the top 1%, first. So your claim is incorrect from the beginning.

Second, you seem to believe that estate tax impacts very wealthy people who sit around on their money only. Nice theory, but the very wealthy, like the Kennedy's, are never caught by this. They have a million ways of moving wealth from generation to generation without simply passing it along like you or me. No, the group that is impacted worst by this tax is.... drumroll please... mom and pop shops. That's right. A family-owned business, under the current estate tax system, is the most likely to be hit and hit hard. They often are forced out of business because the next generation can't afford the government taking 50% of their family's blood and sweat for an entire generation in one fell swoop. But, by all means, please believe that this will hurt the wealthy while they pass their money and holdings through other channels. Do you really believe the Kennedy's ever paid estate tax? Ever?

As for increasing homeland security... you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either a ton of people complain about deficits, or a ton of people complain about what isn't being spent. You don't get to choose both. Or wait, you can, by just stealing from the toil of a generation and then keeping them from passing on their efforts to their children. That's not immoral or anything. I know, we can just keep raising taxes on everyone and everything, growing government into every aspect of our lives. That will make things better *sarcasm*.

I have a lot of friends who are farmers. The own farms that have been passed down from generations. Their largest asset is the land they toil on. When the farm is passed down from father to child the estate tax is nearly 50% of the land's assessed value. They are hardly in the top 1%.

Second I would recommend you look at the bill that was voted down, my congressman told me it was loaded with pork and was unrealistic in it's execution. As he put it " the goals were admirable but the logistics and execution were far beyond obtainable as written".

Once again you must have gotten that tid bit from a biased source. When you think for yourself you ask better questions.

Did you know that the same Republicans who scream about anti-war advocates hurting the troops voted to cut the troops pay and benefits 3 times since the war began?

Hypocrisy at it's finest, and both parties are guilty.

And Democrats are more worried about making sure incompetent union workers don't get fired than national security. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. They all suck.
