worked for one month, was paid by check, cashed check then 7 days later they stopped payment on my check is this legal

File a complaint with the EEOC http://www.eeoc.gov/ and the BBB http://www.bbb.org/

You should call your local labor board/department and report it. They will let you know if it's legal/illegal and what to do after.
Do you belong to a union.. a union would take this up for you.. if not perhaps a good time for a union..

Why did they stop payment? Did you get fired or something
