in norse mythology, Hela was the queen of the underworld, specifically she ruled over those "who died ingloriously" ie. old age or sickness, not during a battle.

There is no deity per se for such a role. However, in a sense this role is occupied by Odin. Those who die gloriously in battle, if Odin (in his Aesir capacity as God of Battles and God of Dooms) deems them worthy, are carried by the Valkyries off to the celestial mead-hall of Valhalla.

Vallhala is a palace where Aneherjars ("dead heroes") live. Aneherjars are wariors which died while fighting and who were chosen by Odin as his followers, special wariors. Odin made Vallhala in the city of Azgard. Destiny of these "chosen wariors" was to acompany Odin and fight with him against evil, when the final and the last day, Ragnarok, comes. That's what I remember....

If an honourable death is one achieved in battle, all slain warriors are split between Odin (or Wotan) and Freya (or Frigg).

Valhalla is where Odin gathered his portion of the slain warriors, Einheriar (Einherjar), whom the valkyries had chosen. Freya lives in Folkvang [battlefield] and each day choses half of the slain warriors to split with Odin.

Heilsa,

sndsouza pretty much has the right of it. Odin and Freja each share half the battle-slain. What most forget is that Freja gets first choice. : )

Now, battle slain in direct service of another of the Aesir may of course go to their patron's Hall, instead.

The Aesir under Oden were the honorable warriors so I would imagine they would be who honored glorious battle type deaths? Or maybe Tyr the son of Hymir? Honestly I don't know, it is a great question that prompts research. Thanks for giving me something worthwhile to do!

Those who die honorably go to Valhalla, as I recall. I'm pretty sure Odin is their patron god.
