The latest mammal extinction may be the Western black rhino (Diceros bicornis longipes). The World Conservation Union (IUCN) announced on July 7, 2006 that this subspecies has been tentatively declared as extinct. The extinction of this subspecies of black rhino was caused by pouching for their horn, lack of finance, limited anti-poaching efforts, limited local capacity for conservation management, failure of courts to hand down sentences that can act as a deterrent to potential poachers, and genetic and demographic factors.

Moa, common name, originally used by the Maoris, for ostrichlike birds that inhabited New Zealand. Moas are extinct—the last species dying out in the early 19th century. Most moa bones have been found in swamps, others in sands, riverbeds, and in dry caves, where bits of skin and feathers have been preserved. Many pieces of their thick-shelled eggs and a few whole eggs have been found, one containing a large embryo.

truth is nobody knows. this might seem odd but many animals go extinct before we even discover them, especially invertabrates, or animals found in hard to reach places. new species evolve and become extint before anyone ever discovers them on a regular basis.
