No sure way.
People can (and should) disable auto-reply notification / confirmation stuff.
Why: You disable it to prevent spammers and scammers from doing exactly what you want to do: confirm their garbage was received. I assume your reasons are more honorable.
If you send an email in html and have it point to an image on your website, when they open the email, a record of it will appear in your server log files. If the image name is uniquely asociated with the email, you can be sure they opened the mail by seeing if a request for the image shows up in the log files. You can also do this programmaticaly in php and have your webserver send you an email confirmation.
This does NOT work if they opened the email in text mode.
If their email client is set up to not open images in an email, same thing - no traceability. This is a 'protect your privacy' capabililty built into Outlook, Thunderbird and others.
Some companies offer email delivery verification services. You can be pretty sure they are using the 'image' trick.
In sum - no foolproof method exits.

From outlook express help
To be notified when your outgoing messages are received
You can set up Outlook Express to display a receipt for e-mail you send. The receipt is sent when the message recipient has displayed your message. This is useful when you are sending time-critical information, or any time you want confirmation that your message has been received.
To request a receipt for individual messages
In the new message window, on the Tools menu, click Request Read Receipt.
To request a receipt for all messages
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Receipts tab, select the Request a read receipt for all sent messages check box.
Note
Message recipients can choose not to send read receipts, even when they are requested. If you do not want to send receipts, on the Tools menu, click Options. On the Receipts tab, select a Returning Read Receipts option.

yes,
depending on the email program you are using, e.g. ms outlook express, look for the option that says"request read receipt"
once the receiver opens the message, a notification will be sent to you.
other programs may have different names for this, so just explore and try it out
goodluck

If the message hits their mail server they can study it. it isn't as easy for them to study mail that under no circumstances is residing on the server. In different words mail despatched from a yahoo account to a special yahoo account under no circumstances makes use of the employer mail server. they could however be monitoring your pastime on the information superhighway besides as your e mail in which case they may even see each and every thing that you do on the information superhighway. i'd only safeguard your own employer on your own time and keep on with doing all of your pastime if you're at artwork. maximum agencies enable restricted own e mail use see you later because the emails aren't from now on obscene or objectionable. you should have gained a algorithm as to what the employer enables on their pcs once you began your pastime, once you've under no circumstances been advised i'd ask, because the position your pastime is in contact lack of understanding isn't bliss and it might want to fee you your pastime.

Not really sure on that one, I suppose it depends on your email system & settings etc. What I use, if I need to know a msg has been read, is send an 'e-card', then you get a msg saying '..... has just read your card'. You'll know then, it doesn't have to be a greeting card, if you go to 'www.123greetings.com', the have a wide variety of cards you can use. Good Luck.
