Has anyone ever been through a tornado, or has chased 1? what was it like.?

I have this fear of tornadoes and i dont know how to get over it.

I have seen 11 up close and personal worse was the famous one in 1966 in topeaka kansas . heading to the shealter it swiped our car and it came up on two wheels thank god it didnt flip it or pick it up.
tornados are very unstable and you have a right to fear them. I however respect them and always go to safety whenever one is heading your way.

I WAS AT A CAMP GROUND WHEN A TORNADO CAME RIGHT THROUGH IT LITERALLY. THAT WAS AT THE EAGLES NEST CAMPGROUND IN WIS. THIS TRAILER FLIPPED UP INTO THE AIR AND THREW THIS LADY OUT AND LANDED RIGHT ON HER, IT WAS SCARY. I WAS ABOUT 10 AT THE TIME.
WHEN I WAS 12 A TORNADO CAME UP ON THE ROAD BEHIND OUR CAR, IT WAS VERY SCARY. I WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT W/ MY AUNT AND GRANDMA, MY GRANDPA WAS DRIVING. THE TORNADO LIFTED THE @SS END UP OF OUR CAR, MY AUNT WAS PRAYING. THE TORNADO DROPPED THE REAR OF THE CAR AND WENT OFF THE OTHER WAY.
AND WHEN I WAS 15 A TORNADO LITERALLY WENT RIGHT OVER THE TOP OF OUR HOUSE, WE LIVED OUT IN THE COUNTRY IN A NICE A FRAME HOME IT WAS BUILT ONTO THE SIDE OF A BIG HILL, I LOOKED OUT MY BEDROOM WINDOW AND LOOKED UP AND SAW IT GO RIGHT OVER US.
I WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE MOMENTS. IM 36 NOW AND HAVEN'T BEEN IN A TORNADO SINCE AND I DON'T WANT TO BE. WE HAD TOO MANY CLOSE CALLS. ALL 3 OF THOSE TORNADO'S HAPPEN WHEN I LIVED IN WIS. I LIVE IN ILLINOIS NOW. WHEN WE GET A TORNADO WARNING HERE, I DON'T RUN INTO THE BASEMENT OR ANYTHING, I JUST DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. I FIGURE IF I'M MEANT TO DIE I WILL NO MATTER WHERE I'M AT, THE BASEMENT WOULDN'T SAVE ME IF IT WAS MY TIME.

I even have considered 4 tornadoes and 3 hurricanes in my existence. as quickly as I see one I do each and everything i will to get out of this is way. i've got not had a house hit via one yet i exchange into in an workplace development that had this is component ripped off via a cat 2 tornado. thankfully the only human beings interior the development on the time have been the human beings in my workplace and it exchange into on the different component far flung from the tornado. no person exchange into injured yet i think of multiple human beings peed their pants. LOL

I was a storm chaser in West Texas for a few years in the late 70's. Believe me, even knowing how to get near a storm and film it, you never lose the fear. I had a tractor sat on top of me by one storm and didn't know where it came from untill I reviwed the film. Mother Nature is a truely awe inspiring lady. She can also be very cruel. If you have never watched Twister it is pretty close to the real thing, with a few Hollywood embelishments. But the devistatinon shown is right on.

I saw one come down out of the clouds about a quarter mile from me. It sounds like a jet taking off except the sound doesn't fade away like a jet leaving the area. I could see a funnel on the ground and up in the clouds but there was no middle -- it was clear. Lasted about 15 min.

After it stopped, minutes later, I saw way high up in the sky, little dots that kept falling and falling. They landed in front of my house and those were pieces of a galvanized barn roof about 4x6.

Don't worry. I think they give you plenty of warning.

They usually appear on the edge of a cloud bank that is moving and being pushed downwards. I saw a separate pillar cloud away from the main front.

Flying debris is the problem. Get away from the bathroom. If you are in the open, seek the lowest point you can find.

And, really, they give you plenty of warning. Your chances of getting hit by lightening are much worse.

One time i was in houston and i saw a tornado that was starting to form, but it didn't completely form.

never seen a full blown tornado but i have seen tons of funnles. been through 3 huricanes and that was enough
