L. Frank Baum never gave it a physical location, but it was surrounded on all sides by a "Deadly Desert" that killed anyone who stepped in it, making it difficult to access.

Also, in a later book, Glinda and the Wizard enchanted Oz so that it could not be seen, to prevent airplanes from discovering it from above. I think Mr. Baum had to add that bit when clever children began to ask if they might fly there in a new-fangled airplane.

A better, more realistic answer would be, in our imaginations. : )

I'm not sure, but in the movie The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy went to the Land of Oz and it was discovered towards the end that Dorothy had simply suffered an head injury and Oz was a dream. I believe that is in injury inducted daydream.

you haven't been to the Los Angeles area, or you wouldn't ask...Hollywood is definantly Oz....lots of wicked witches, many horses of a different color, Toto travels in hand bags, The Cowardly Lion(s) all ran for office and vote anyway the winds of popularity blow (they still have no courage), The Scare Crow runs the local Government (he is still looking for a brain), the city council is ruled by Tin Men (all still absent a heart). Trust me, this ain't Kansas. And the rainbow can be found in West Hollywood.

Somewhere over the rainbow. As opposed to Never Never Land which is second star to the right and straight on until morning. I wonder if anyone has made a map to all the places in modern stories.
