The question appears to be intellectual at a glance, but after further consideration, it doesn't really make any sense. To try to make sense of the question, I'll interpret what I think it means: If you believe that you can accomplish something yourself, why do you need God to help you do it? First, I would say, belief alone that one can accomplish something is not enough to accomplish it. When I was five years old, I told my grandmother that if we were ever on a plane that was about to crash and there was only one parachute that I would give it to her because I could just jump out and land on my feet. Because I had jumped off the neighbor's roof and a tree house that was about 16 feet high without being injured, I truly believed 100% for sure I could jump from a plane with no parachute and land uninjured. My point is, perhaps people believe in God because they realize they can't do it all themselves. Believing you can't do it all yourself is not not "believ[ing] in yourself" in the sense that you have low self-esteem or that you have no ambitition. It's being realistic and mature - as I became later when I realized that jumping out of an airplane would probably kill me and would certainly injure me.

No matter how much people beleive in themselves, they must realize that the world is not just about them. Individual people have very little control of the events that happen around them. I think that reality is why most people beleive in God. I think it comforts them to beleive in an all-powerful arbitrator of justice and life, that someone more influential than they are is looking out for them. Personally, I don't need that reassurance or comfort and prefer to beleive in what is perceptible.
