I have been reading a lot on learning your body and trying to conceive. Some articles mentioned that when you ovulate, you shed lining that resembles "egg-whites". So my question is, when you see this "egg-white" like discharge, are you about to ovulate, have you ovulated, or are you ovulating at that time?

Sounds like you're Clear and Stretchy, meaning that you're ovulating (see below)

"Different Types of Discharge

White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown.

Spotting Blood/Brown Discharge: This may occur when you are ovulating/mid-cycle. Sometimes early in pregnancy you may have spotting or a brownish discharge at the time your period would normally come. If you have spotting at the time of your normal period rather than your usual amount of flow, and you have had sex without using birth control, you should check a pregnancy test."

Ovulation Egg White Discharge

First of all, it is *not* discharge or mucus, it is cervical fluid. Its job is to keep the sperm alive--it is neither a sign of disease (discharge) nor a bodily waste product (mucus). Both are misnomers given by male doctors who don't appreciate the female reproductive system.

Egg-white fluid is a sign of fertility. It means that your body is preparing for ovulation. It does *not* mean that you are about to ovulate (although *usually* this is the case); sometimes your body seems to "change its mind" and not ovulate afterwards. If you see egg white fluid, then a few days later, there is more, this is usually a sign that you did not ovulate the first time. The only way to know for sure that you *did* ovulate is to chart your basal body temperature together with the cervical fluid.

The EWCM usually happens right before ovulation. But it's different for every woman so you might want to use other techniques like charting your BBT or OPKs. Good Luck and Baby Dust =)

When you see the "egg white" cervical mucous, that is the best time to have sex if you want to conceive. The stretchy, wet stuff is there to help the sperm get to the egg.

As it gets more egg whitish you are getting closer to ovulating. The stretchier the easier the sperma can travel.
