Yes and no. You can choose to be happy on a regular basis on days that there aren't events bringing your mood down. Then there are days that something so wonderful happens you can't even help but smile and be joyous and nothing can take that feeling away. So basically sometimes it is your choice and sometimes it's not.

Like in most things in life, all the things we do or feel, can be just choices to make. Although we go through hardships, it is pretty natural that we feel down about them but no amount of worrying or crying over them can undo things. Hence, we can only choose to leave our mistakes behind and move on bravely, with hope in our hearts and minds. We can only do so if we'd choose to be happy about the decisions we make, whether they will fail or not, because at the end of the day, even our lousiest mistakes has the gift of things we learn from such experiences. Happiness is a choice. Always. :)

American Heritage Dict, happiness is:
1. Characterized by good luck; fortunate.
2. Enjoying, showing, or marked by pleasure, satisfaction, or joy.
3. Being especially well-adapted; felicitous
4. Cheerful; willing
You can choose to have a positive attitude, which to some degree will make you more cheerful, willing and enjoying/enjoyable. You have no control over a lot of things that come into your life, but you can control your response. Some circumstances cause joy and cheerfulness, others pull the opposite direction but with a positive attitude and adaptation we can avoid the misery. Unless of course, as it has been mentioned, there are medical conditions, chemical imbalances that make it hard to come out of the misery.

I believe that you and you alone are in charge of your own happiness. Even when others try to bring you down, its your choice whether or not to let them. Of course terrible events do happen that are out of your control...but ultimately its up to you to take control of the event in your own head and heart and put it into perspective. Things as horrible as a death or illness of a cherished loved one will take time to get a handle on, and you have to remember that it is something out of your own control...but you must choose to find happiness in the good things in life at that time. It will also help those around you and make a horrible situation easier to handle for all of you. You cannot blame others for your unhappiness, as you have the ability to think and feel for yourself. Some people need help to find that strength, but they also have the choice to go and get that help. If you consciously choose to be happy, then you will take the avenues you need in order to find that happiness..

To choose to be happy is far easier said than done. You can be cheerful, satisfied, appreciative, joyful etc.
Happiness, I believe, is influenced by actions. If we determine to do better, to be more positive with our outlook on life; we will come more close to achieving that goal.
Outside influences can cause gladness and rejoicing, but not lasting emotions.
There has to be a catalyst; a starting point to being really happy. I don't know if anyone could be truly happy always.
Positive thinking will put us on the road to happiness; I think it is a goal we must attain with maturity.

Yes it is a choice, but we learn to think a particular way as we grow up and it is very difficult to change your thinking patterns once you become an adult. Genetics also plays a part. In the end though, we all have a choice on how we perceive the situations we are in.

I believe that you choose your own 'happiness' in life and that with a positive attitude, most things can be achieved, therefore happiness is inevitable!

Happiness is simply a feelin you create by your own. When you feel sad, you are the one who make you feel sad.
