I'd suggest Tamp, too. I don't live there, but have been, and relatives of mine live there. It's very nice. It's been a while since I last went, but it seemed that the area my relatives lived in was just full of really nice condos with swimming pools everywhere. It looked like a nice place to live, but I suppose some others who actually live there may oppose. Besides that, I absolutely love the Orlando area because of Walt Disney World. The only thing I didn't like about Orlando was all the highways... lol I'm from New Hampshire and our highways aren't half that crazy. Roads just twisted around each other and all over the place. I couldn't tell you how many times we got lost or off the wrong exit. We must've drove the around the Marriott (or whatever it is), in the middle of all the roads, at least 10 times.
Anyway, good luck!

I live in Florida and can tell you that the best place to live is on the east coast in a town called Stuart. I live in Sewalls Point and its a very nice area. The entire county has passed an ordinacne that states that no building can breech in height 4 stories. Only the Hospital is allowed to breech 4 stories. It is also one of the richest counties in the United States, it rivales Beverly Hills, and Hollywood. So as a result the school systems all have new computors and new books e.t.c. Also there is always a breeze here, the only time it gets really hot is during the summer. We are also 45 minutes from the West Palm Beach International Airport. We are 2.5 hours from Orlando (2 if u take the toll road). You do not want to move to Orlando because of the fact you will have all the congestion of New York because of all the tour busses and tourist. We are called the treasure coast because a fleet of Spanish Treasure ships sunk just off-shore. We also have a coral reef beach called Bathtub Beach because when the tide goes out some of the warter is left in the area behind the reef creating a pool of shallow water where small shildren can play and just sit in the water. If you do decide to move here PLEASE consider Stuart Florida. Contact me if you want to move to this area and I can give you the name of the relator who sold us our house and she help you look, that is if you do decide to move here.

In the Tampa Bay area it's not so bad you have a variety of places to live and there are many places to have a great nightlife. There is Ybor City, St. Pete, Clearwater beach, of course Tampa and many more . You can live in the city or if you like it laid back and more private a country type area, or even find a waterfront home . There are many jobs but it also depends on what you are looking for. But I grantee you can find a job in a days time.

I lived in Florida for quite a few years. I prefer the easy going side of the state. I liked the Tampa bay area. Places like St Pete, Clearwater are thriving. Your right about ethnic diversity, in south florida at least. I think the Gulf coast is quite nice. The greater Tampa area offers affordable housing, good employment, nice nightlife, and the blend is more diverse. You also have major sports teams, some of the best beaches, great clubs, its really a nice place to be. http://www.visittampabay.com/

Everyone says Orlando, which is obvious, but go to Homestead because they have this one of a kind place there. Coral Castle, you have to check it out. Although you have been to West Palm, the shopping is great n City Place. Lastly, in West Palm they have Sunfest, the best summer concert in Florida. Good Luck!
