I heard somewhere that it's only around 2 inches. We get flooding in Arizona during monsoon season, and this seems to be the number the news throws out when they advise people to not drive across washes.

Depends on the weight and type of tyres on the car. In simple terms the car will start to float from as little as 14 inches !! in still water, a flood can cause the car to float in much lower water depending on the strength of the water current.

It really does depend on the car's shape, weight, etc.,. And there's no guarantee it will float at all.
