Well it makes people more effecient and effective. So they can contribute more to society, by being more productive, and making better choices.
Of course being educated also results in direct benefits for the educated person themselves- they usually earn more, and have good lifestyles.

Whatever you choose to learn- whether at school college or 'on the job' - will make you better prepared and able to look after yourself more. This might be by getting a job, being more self-aware, or just knowing how to get by. If you don't learn, you stay with the negative side of being a baby- powerless and unable to think for yourself.
Knowledge is power, as they say.

a degree will get you into oz permanently if you wanted to
its easier than going to work
you meet like minded people
better options
