because it is the job of the secratary of state, just like her predecessors like kissinger, albright, powell etc. and maybe because she is the best person they can send in the middle east. i just want to clarify to you that Condy will not and will never be brokering peace in the middle east but will propose an umbrella of allies in which the members will be sunni states such as turkey, egypt, saudi arabia, jordan, etc. remember that the hezbollah are shiites and the above mentioned countries are condemning their act of kidnapping israeli soldiers. if rice will be successful in her plan, it would garner support in iraq, as well in the nuclear stand off in iran.

The US Secretary of State is the most appropriate person for the Mid East assignment (her predecessor Dr. Kissinger mediated at peacetalks); after meetings in Lebanon and Israel, Condoleeza Rice called for the Rome summit which brings together EU and Arab nations, Russia (but not Israel, Iran or Syria). She's expected in Malaysia to brief ASEAN countries later this week.
It's odd you concern yourself with "who" rather than what's the agenda.

Let me tell you this. As a black person, I would never call another black a coconut lightly. But in the case of this despicable human being. she brings all of us into disrepute. To think she is the lap dog of the likes of Bush is truly disgusting. I was in the UK on business last year and I was embarrased to see an American dignitary treated the way she was. She lacks morals, a lifelong right wing christian bigot and I hope she stands for President of the US so she can be humiliated. She will quickly find that those for whom she works, doing their dirty deeds now, will not support her.

The primary office for diplomatic relations with the rest of the world is the Secretary of State. Dr. Rice is the SoS.
The SoS, of course, answers to the president. So, I;m sure that she discussed this with him and other members of the administration and the State Department.

I think Bush's choice of negotiators is appropriate. That is part of her job, after all. What concerns me more is the agenda she will be pushing. Is she there to promote peace or war? Based on her recent comments, I tend to believe the latter.

That is her job.
What do you have against her her sex or the color of her skin?
Would you be asking the question if the Sec of State was a rich white male democrat ?
