I hear where you're coming from, man. Like, I know this dude who knew this other dude who died smoking weed! He, like, fired up a fatty, and then he got the munchies - heh, heh - and he left his pad to get some snackage. And he was crossing the, like, street, you know, to get a soda and some powder donuts and some beef jerky ... and a bus hit him. Killed him on the spot, dude. Another senseless weed-related death. Totally.

Weed, as described above by the ignorant, is not the gateway drug to harder drugs. BEER is the gateway drug. Ask any kid what was the first drug they took and it'll be alcahol.
Now, Why is weed illegal? There were two corporate empires back around the 30's and 40's.
Seagrams and
Dupont.
Seagrams was into booze and didn't want the competition.
Dupont was into making nylon and polyester for clothing and wanted to get rid of hemp which, as it turned out, was far superior to anything else out there.
So both of those companies lobbyed (translate: Paid off politicians) to make weed illegal.
Oh, and it'll never be made legal 'cause the gov't can't tax it.
and that's the truth !!!

EXCLUDING MEDICAL MARIJUANA- which isn't recognized by any law enforcement agency (because the federal gov't doesn't either) But weed has been legal in AZ a few years ago( by a taxation snafu) but was overturned...also in AK you could grow & possess a specific amount for personal-use but buying or selling it was still illegal (after several years it too was overturned)...BC Canada had legal weed for awhile too...but it didn't last all that long ... the biggest hurdle to get over to make weed legal is not the drug (delta9-tetra-hydro-canabinol aka THC) but rather the fact that it's smoked/ingested/consumed in its natural form (raw vegative matter) & therefore it is a herb/natural substance (only the THC within is a "drug") & the FDA cannot regulate or have control over the use & distribution of herbs/natural substances/supplements so they lobby (BUY) congress & the ledgislature to make sure it stays illegal until they can have full control of its use & distribution...The $100 billion (& growing) per year pharmacutical industry isn't enough I guess

Yours is an often asked question and the answer depends on who you ask.
Most people, especially those who have never smoked a joint , will tell you it's a serious danger to your health. And that may well be true bu it is not as dangerous as some other things we ingest into our bodies. The list is lengthy so I won't bother listing them.
Although I have not researched the issue of deaths from weed, I would venture to say that specifically no one has died from it, BUT it's effects caused people to move onto other substances that did cause death. For instance, Buick's don't cause death, but driving it to fast or recklessly can cause death. It the same thing with guns.
GUNS don't kill people, people kill people. Lets face it to much of any good thing can have negative side effects . . . . including pot. My guess is weed is illegal because the US Government has not yet figured out a way to control it and sell it or tax it.

Hemp was made illegal when William Randolph Hearst bought congress to have it declared illegal. Had nothing to do with weed. Hearst had extensive holdings in forest land and pulp paper mills. His friends the DuPonts had also come up with rayon and dacron, synthetic fabrics. Since you can make good paper from hemp, and great clothing, too, Hearst and the DuPonts paid congress to make hemp illegal so that they could make their money off of pulp paper and the synthetic fabrics. Weed was just caught in the middle

Marijuana is the safest of recreational drugs. I don't partake simply because I have no real desire...but if I did, I would choose it over any other substance. You can't overdose. You don't get aggressive. You don't become physiologically dependent. And the detrimental effects pale in comparison to those associated with alcohol, a legal intoxicant.

Its all about money. If people can grow their own weed, the government cant make money off of it. Alcohol, cigarettes, prescriptions drugs, etc all kill thousands of people each year. Amazing.

Weed is one of God's gifts to man, one of many that man has taking a way! Then God said, Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds. And it was so.
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was Good!(Genesis,1:11-12) Then God said, I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the WHOLE EARTH and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for FOOD! And it was so (Genesis1:29-30) God knows BEST
