For example do M&A lawyers normally make more than Real Estate Lawyers? or say, Entertainment Lawyers? I am entering law school this year and was curious.

Every area can be very lucrative depending on how good you are. I would look into areas you enjoy, since you will probably be better at them. As for most lucrative, as a general term, malpractice and personal injury. That's who can afford the larger advertisement billboards and yellowpages. They tend to not have steady income, but big wins when it hits.

Plus, if you aren't any good, or do not have the clients, you will get small pain in the behind cases.

Good luck with law school, be sure to sign up for a bar review course early and lock the rate.

What kind of lawyer do you want to be? Instead of focusing on how much money they make, practice the kind of law you are most interested in, and make it a point to do your best and become successful. It's better to struggle for a few years while doing what makes you happy than to go out and make tons of money but hate your job. Good Luck.

The attorneys with the highest starting salaries are patent lawyers. In my area, associates start at around $100,000, but patent lawyers start at around $125,000 and it's like that everywhere. Now, if you get into a good firm, you'll still be making bank, but if you're really focused on the money, go patent law.

Very few criminals have money. Those who do have money are generally involved in organised crime - bad for your health - so avoid criminal law. Company law requires a solid understanding of commerce, so if you do not want to work excessively, avoid that as well. All law practices requires work to some degree, but divorce law seems to have the most potential for making money with the smallest comparative input.

Corproate lawyers from what I am told. Last I heard they were charging $1000-$3000/hour. Plus there are always corporate lawsuits so you will have a lot of work available to you.

Unfortunatley in this day and age the most lucrative practice is family law or workmans comp.

Do realize how much money is spent each year on divorce?
