Assuming God created us, and assuming that the Bible is true (which I'm assuming you're assuming), God created us for the sake of being creative.

He was just building stuff like a little kid builds a sand castle, and he thought, "Hey, I'm going to make something like me that looks a little like me and can think and choose an' everything!"

But when he did, he found out that we didn't follow him and listen to him and obey him like a proper pet and he was pretty ticked off. Then in a tizzy, he wiped us out (the flood of noah) like the kid would when the sandcastle didn't work the way he wanted.

Eventually he matured a little and has now become more like a father-figure to us leading gently on the path of righteousness (assuming you believe up the Christian parts of the Bible).

God created all the animate as well as inanimate things and beings in this universe. Out of all the living beings (plants and animals), the human species is the superior most of all. Our soul for several million years had been taking birth in some body or the other (cat , frog, grass, insect, spinach etc.). Our soul is part of the supreme consciousness (GOD), whereas the body is dross - which means perishable- after its own life. All things that we perceive with our senses are perishable - they all have their lifespan. Even the earth, Sun and moon all have fixed lifes and will perish and are therefore dross. Only the soul is permanent - has no origin and no end.

Now to answer your question. The short answer is that god has given us this birth to attain freedom from life and death , which means liberation from the transmigration of our soul into different types of species and bodies.

This is not a new answer - but in essence all the religions of the world teach the same gospel.

The problem is that our soul is trapped by our mind, and our mind in turn is driven by our senses - which always seek pleasure. By meditation (under guidance of a true Guru), we can set our soul free from mind. When the soul is free from the clutch of the mind, just like a magnet it straight goes and merges into the lord . That is the supreme bliss and that is the one and only purpose of human life for which god has given us birth.

We cannot achieve god in any other physical body. If we do not try to seek salvation ( free from the cycle of birth and death ) in this birth, than , based on our actions of this life we are given life in some other species and the cycle goes on and on and on and on. Human life is the only chance to break free from this cycle.

Human life is very rare gift of the almighty god to us, and a golden chance to seek God.

We can practice any religion that we may like - as long as we have love for each and every creature on this planet earth. When Love for god and god's creation is the only desire left in us , then we merge with god and attain nirvana. All other desires for name , fame, wealth and honor etc. bring us back to the cycle of birth and death in myriad physical bodies.

God did not create man; man created god to explain all the things he couldn't understand.

You cannot be sure if god created us. However, there is this idiom in Chinese that says, if we live on this world, we have a purpose.
