Hi there, well, there are different types of miscarriage.

My first miscarriage in January 2005 was a "complete" miscarriage,,,where I bled a lot. The second one in October 2005, I didn't even know I had miscarried until I went for my first scan...there was no hearbeat (at 8 weeks though, this is not that uncommon as sometimes the fetus can be to small), but also the fetus had detached from the womb...had I not gone for a scan I probably would have started to bleed a few days later. On that one I had to have a D&C and after the D&C you usually bleed for a while also.

So...you can miscarry and not immediately bleed...but eventually, whats in your womb would have to be expelled either naturally or via a D&C.

Nell.

Yes and no, Yes because the baby may have died and it is not being rid by your body so you would need to do a D&C and no because eventually it will leave your body if you don't have the D&C but due to how long it takes could lead to other complications. A fetus can die up to 1-4 weeks sometimes before you see any blood.
An example of this is, if you see a small amount of brown blood, that usually means it is old blood and that the fetus may have died up to 4 weeks ago. If you see red blood, that means it's only new blood and you should call the OB/GYN immediately. Red spotting does not mean it is a miscarriage and you may still proceed to full term birth.

I have hread of cases where the unborn had died inside the womb without the mother knowing, but I'm sure there are cases of bloodless miscarriages. Ask you doctor the next time you are at his office.

That would be a new one on me, but I suppose anything's possible. I bled profusely. Hope everything's ok.
