Ulead Video Studio is great, quite similar to Movie Maker, but has more advanced capabilities.

I've used it to place logos onto the top of videos for example, which Windows Movie Maker can't do.

The address for more information on Ulead Video Studio can be found here:

It often comes with video cameras and stuff in software bundles as well (maybe look at camera packages as well? you might be able to get the program and a camera as well).

Oh The Places you will go!

This is one of my favorite questions and one that I seem to answer most often.

You need to ask yourself a couple of things:

1) What do I want to do with my video?

2) Who is my audience?

3) How much effort do I want to put in to learning a new program?

4) How much money do I want to spend?

5) Why am I getting frustrated with the program I am using now?

I would put a where in there but I can't think of a relavent where question.

These questions are important to answer because there are so many video editing programs out there, and they vary from the basic like what you are using now to the rediculous like an $89,000 Avid set up.

I am assuming a couple of things based off of your question.
1. you do not want to buy a new computer.
2. you are working on home videos that you may or may not want to burn to DVD or post on the web. (instead of editing video for tv or weddings etc.)
3. you are using a PC.

Based on those assumptions I am going to recomend Adobe premiere elements, bundled with adobe photoshop elements. They are easy to use, and extremely powerful. They are a little pricier than say NERO or Pinnacle 10 but they are much much more powerful. Packaged together they were about $140.00 last I checked but if you look around you can probably find them for less.

I am a professional videographer and I went to a confrence with a company that produces a machine for broadcasting video on cable television and they recomended this software highly for public access television stations. For the price they are right I don't think you can beat it.

That being said avid makes a free program that is more powerful than movie maker. I have not used it but it supposedly has a little bit of a steep learning curve. But the price is right.
