How common is it for parents to let teens smoke and drink in moderation, hoping that experimentation is normal? Won't being overly strict backfire and close off communication?

I would hope no parents are getting those specifically for their children! I think that a mature teenager should ba allowed to drink only in social situations where it is appropriate and with the rest of the family(ex. holidays, weddings etc.)and not smoke because its addictive... drinking is okay because its not nescessarily as addictive as cigarettes(and other drugs) are. my parents would never let me use either, but I suppose some parents do.

I snuck mine.They would buy it and not see how much was left so,I had some shots and got drunk as hell.As for cigarettes same thing I just snuck a pack.I don't do either now though,cigarettes are deadly and alcohol tastes aweful but the buzz is nice but it's not worth the hell you go through the next day.

If their mom or dad smokes or drinks I think that this would make it easier to get ciggerates or alcohol.Because mos t of the time the teen will find the ciggerates or alcohol in their parents house .

OKAY I have a 15 year old son and I would totally kill him if i caught him drinking or smoking! Thank God I have a son who totally cares about his body and is big on karate and his body! He yells at me all the time cuz I smoke! lol I reall should quit huh? BUT nope- this is NOT something I would allow him to do! NOPE! NO WAY!

I say parents that let there kids have alchol or cigarerttes are not good parents. They need to think about there kids Life and Health, and I say that if a Parent lets there Kid have Any of that junk, They just dont really love there Kid!

Usually parents don't know. They usually leave cigarettes out and they smoke them, or they leave a cup of alcohol out. Plus the parents are so drunk they wouldn't notice if their kid drank it.

i really don't think parents give their children cigarettes because why will someone do that to their kids,but really some kids don't get cigarettes from their parents,they probaly got it from someone else like a friend.

first I'd shove damp ones down his/her throat, then call the police
and if they were to ever drink, sorry OUT THE DOOR, not in my house

my cousin just buys her sons cigarettes and they smoke and drink together
