wow! this sounds dreadfully familiar!!
my bathroom sink was out for over 2years! top that one...
kitchen sink every morning no mirror. i went crazy.
that was only one project..
the way i got him not to finish was a lot of nagging.
listen,.. the next time you are together, bring up the conversation ( at a reasonable time of the day), ask him if he has had a chance to contact so and so,, your answer will be "no". so then you ask him for the number so that you can call, he will probably oppose this, so remind him that youve waited 6months and you are really feeling the impact of the unfinished work. tell him that the call will just take a second. have him call and invite the contact over ( for like you said ) "a good time" right then and there. once he's made the call thank him lots. make him feel like he just saved your sanity.
remember the key is timing...
good luck

That's not nagging at all....when he said he would get someone, he should have followed through...take it into your own hands and get someone else. My husband does that a lot. He will say he is going to do something, and then never does. Even just little things like mowing the grass or taking out the trash....if I am not RIGHT THERE to remind him, he forgets...and if I have to take the time to make sure that I AM right there, I might as well just do whatever it is myself.

I would just call someone to do the job. You are a grown woman, why are you waiting for your husband? Sounds like he has a big ego and you keep tripping over it. Take charge and get the work done. If it bothers your husband that much, tell him tough. You have asked for months and still no results. Things need to get done and you have the time to do them. If he says you have no experience, tell him this will be how you get it. You can't go to wrong if you use reliable and experienced companies. He'll get over it. Good Luck.

It's called a deadline. Tell him if he does not call so and so by next week, you are taking care of it no matter the cost. With a looser like this, only threats of a deadline and punishment will work, no amount of nagging will help.

Some day here soon, while he's home pick up the phone and hand it to him. Say " call one of your contacts for the electricity and the floor now, or I'm going to call someone myself."

You should just hire someone and if he complains just say I didn't want to wait for you to take care of it for another year. You have been plenty patient and he is a flake so be assertive and get the job done.
