Definitely Filipinos are reared with a greater sense of respect for elders like what the others said. It would be absolutely unthinkable for a Filipino to call his parents by their first names. Filipinos also have terms of respect like "po" and "opo".

From what I've seen, Filipinos are a bit more protective while Americans allow the kids more independence. Of course, it's a given that Filipinos inherently affix titles of respect to elders like "Ate" or "Kuya" to older siblings, for the are female and male, respectively, but with the Americans, it's just a first-name basis for all. :)

i think Americans doesn't have respect to their brothers and sisters. maybe because they only call their elder one by their first name while Filipinos are calling their elder a "kuya" or "ate".
