This would make it very exciting but the NBA would not go for it.... let the AND 1 team enter the dunk contest, if you did that it would be NBA vs. AND. This would bring out the stars of the NBA because they wouldn't want to lose to AND 1. Which they probaly would because the Air up there is amazing. 720.

Only allow a limited number of attempts. That would force players to perform more attainable dunks and not try to do a bunch of fancy schmancy stuff before hand that usually ends up making it harder for them to do the actual dunk. Something like a 5 attempt limit.

Go real old school with the first round. As in each contestant has to do 5 compulsary dunks, like they used to in the old ABA slam dunk contest. And one of the compulsary dunks should be to slam dunk 2 balls at once, just cuz no one does that anymore.

And more short guys should be in the contest. What made the last contest interesting wasn't the dunks, but that Nate Robinson is 5' 9".

And they should have a past winners slam dunk contest, where the only participants are past winners, so guys like JRich, Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant and other past winners compete against each other to see who's best, then the winner of that contest competes against the winner of the regular slam dunk competition.

The NBA should let the players vote on 3 players to compete in the SDC. The players know who the true dunkers are and who is the most creative. Then we might get to see Vince or Kobe or Wade, etc. Then whoever wants to join (like the rookies who want to make a name for themselves) can join. They'll come in knowing that the competition is fierce and you can't just dunk from the free throw line or jump over someone to win. Take the prize money away because dunkers should win for pride not money. Do NBA champions win money? NO. Without money and only pride on the line we should see an awesome show.

The best way to make the Slam-Dunk competition more exciting is to have the real stars of the league compete in it. Well... they don't have to be stars but the NBA could have invited better dunkers. The rule is now that only rookies and second year players can compete in it is crap. Kobe, Wade, LeBron and others should be in the competition! It is simple as that to fix the competition.

what about adding someone to guard the person attempting to do their dunk and depending on how forcefully they throw it down and like always the finesse and creativity would rate the dunk. Maybe each round you add a defender you also can add a team mate to assist in a dunk. but if you choose it to be you against the world you get 10 additional points if you can suceed in dunking the basketball. To me it would make the dunk more credible because he didnt just run down the court and dunk it he was being defended and had to work for the dunk.

Get rid of this rule where one dunk has to be done with assistance. That really hampers the creativity, I think.

Also, nobody over 6-6 enters. When you get a big lanky 6-11 guy, there's no air, no hang time, it may be powerful but not as pretty.

And finally, always let a Harlem Globetrotter compete. Have you ever seen Michael Wilson dunk? He of the highest made dunk ever (Guiness record)?

Like most things....it should be dropped for awhile. It's old and stale. All players want to do anymore is dunk anyway, so a contest is just more of what you see in the games. When players get back to playing real basketball, then maybe bring it back.

Get the players that can really dunk not guys like Nate Robinson who can barely dunk. What kind of a dunk champion can't even consistently dunk? He couldn't even finish a wide open dunk off a fast break one time, he tried to dunk it but ended up just sort of laying it in. They should try obstacles like who can do the fanciest dunk over Yao Ming or Ben Wallace.

You need to make it worth the top tier dunkers time. First of all get rid of the age limit, and throw up a $500,000 prize up. No second place gets a date with Tony Parkers's g-friend. Baddest dunker gets the glory. If you wonder where to get the money-just ask mark cuban to donate it next time he decides to vent about nba officiating.
Here's your lineup: Vince, Bronny, T-Mac, J-Rich, D-Mase, Andre IG., and Kobe( cuz he wouldn't want to get shown up and you KNOW he hates to lose!)

they should use a special court with the hoop in the center with no backboard. just a circle for the rim and the net which will be suspended by 2 rods that go to the floor. there will be small walls around the edge of the court that will let the player jump off it, bounce the ball off it, do anything.

that will be new and will create excitement.
