Even though I'm too young to have ever seen him play...Jim Brown. I've seen clips of him and he could run over anyone. Others getting votes: Walter Payton, Steve Young (the man could pass and run pretty well...that's called athleticism), Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Jerry Rice, and Barry Sanders. Notice that the 80's and 90's brought us a lot of great players?

Even though QB is the most important position on the field, my inclination is to choose either Jim Brown or Jerry Rice. I couldn't decide on a single defensive player.

A very position specific question- in my opinion as a RB, Eric Dickerson, as a QB, Dan Marino, defender ( any) Deion Sanders, offense ( all other) Jerry Rice.

Walter Payton, he could make plays all by himself. He held the NFL rushing title for years. He could run around the defense or right through them. He also could pass the ball on rear occassions.
