I would vote for getting a Canon. They are usually always good quality and the cartridges won't cost as much to replace. Typically Canon printers have the lowest long term operating costs.
You could try the PIXMA iP4200, which is £54.00. It is very popular and well-rated.

The Canon Pixma range is a very good photo printer and certainly has no problems printing documents. The replacement cartridges are also very reasonably priced.
Epson have always been the professionals choice for industry standard prints, (we run an Epson at the Printing company I work for) and they tend to filter down the technology to home printers therfore giving superior performance. But the cartridges are expensive.
