Try to think of it as a series of stories about people's lives. A lot of history is figuring out why people made their decisions, what they did and the consequences of their actions. In fact, it is really the same kind of thing you might see in a good movie or know about through your own life or the lives of people you know. It just makes it a little more understandable.

Sometimes the people will have experienced very different lives to yours, so take an interest in imagining how their environment (which could be political, religious, economic or social...) might have impacted on them. Sometimes it can be a bit dry to learn lots of facts, so try thinking about what the fact tells you about the people, how they lived and what went on around them.

Good luck!

(I studied history at university - it was really fun!)

Here is the good think about history - its based on past events and therefore facts dont change. Try cramming it all if you have to. I started off thinking im cramming and im surprised up to today i still know that the first world war was in 1914 - 1918 and the second world war was in 1939 - 1945! Its been 17 years since I left that class! That information never changed! You got to enjoy it to be able to perservere, though, coz, yes, there is a lot of text to read. Its factual, unlike mathematics based on some figures that you work your bloody way and still get the marks, even if the answer is wrong! I loved history - European history too and I thought i was gonna be a history teacher when i grow up! Well, Im not and Im grown enough!

Keep your head up and give it the time it deserves. There's no short cuts coz you just have to read the text books and cram the dates too.

Good Luck
