If you have money, think about adding some more RAM memory to the computer. It is the cheaper way to speed up a computer.

But also do the following FREE thing:

1) Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.

2) Check that you have a least 10% of your hard drive free. Go to My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Look at the properties. If it has less that 10% free space, you will need to delete some files, or move them off the hard drive and on to a CD or DVD. Start by running the disk cleanup, which will remove temporary and other unneeded files. Go to Start, then All Programs, then System Tools and click the Disk Cleanup icon.

3) Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

4) Defrag the hadr drive. Go into My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Select Properties and go into the Tools tab. Click the Defragment Now button to start the defrag program. If you have not defrag recently (or never) it may take several hours for the program to complete.

By making a computer run faster is known as overclocking.
But in some cases computer run slow because of the amount of software installed on them this implements that the registry of the operating system is very big. So as Microsoft says windows installation must be done on every 6 months (recommended) and at each year at least.
So if your operating system has more then 6 months or more then 1 year (if u don't use it to much) you must reinstall it and you can see the difference.

But that's a software case.

You can also make your computer faster by overclocking it.
It's a very delicate process and in some cases you can physically destroy the computer hardware by burning them.
Here are some online documentation about overclocking that i think it might help you, but as i told you it's a very delicate procedure and dangerous in the same way but it has it's advantages, if you success in making a good overclocking you can fell the power difference.

Sometimes computers speed slow down by the programmes like games and other graphical softwares also the operating system plays big role i it it uses computers memory which we called as a RAM it shared within the computers operating system.
also the many viruses slows the speed of the pc. just do 1 thing install the best antivirus and clean the system properly and afterthat you find that the pcs speed is slow then increase the number os rams there are 2 to 3 slots for increase the rams so you can eaisely increase the rams. another 512mb ram is the bset soluation for speeding up your pc. But make sure that your motherboard is supports to it.

First of all defragment the min drives.
Then remove the unwanted files.
Remove temp files.
Upgrade to a higher MB RAM or OS.

P.S. Even not having a wallpaper can increase the computers speed.

If nothing works then change ur pc and buy a new one.

Defragment it and clear out any unnecessary programs and files.

Also, if you use Firefox and it's working really slowly, go the Extensions in the Tools menu (I think!) and download FasterFox.

Run a defrag, clear temporary internet files, and run a virus/spyware scan.
