Most people want to make sure they look nice with make-up, hairstyles, latest fasions, and how everyone cool acts. Why don't they care about who they truely are? We should start caring about our inward beauty rather than our outward beauty. The heart is a lot more important than how we look!

Well outward appearance is the window of your personality to the world. You dont dress for yourself but for others. External appearance is important becoz that gives the first impression to others about ur personality. But this is not the the final destination as its very very important to be beautifull from mind and heart. Outward looks are just momentary where as inward beauty is long lasting. People will always remember you becoz of your inside beauty & not how u look. If you have a good heart and mind then your actual looks are just an ornament. So its important to think beautifully and the world will be beautiful to u.

Being vain is when you put your appearance above everything else and value your looks more than being a good person. For example, if you refuse to help carry something because you might break a nail, then that would be considered vain. Caring about your appearance is taking an interest in the way you look and dedicating some time to making yourself look good. It's important to care about your appearance but not to become obsessive, which is when you get described as vain.

Two major reasons:

1) Outward appearance is easier to examine and easier to improve.

2) Outward appearance has a more direct and immediate effect on one's interactions with others.

Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to be preoccupied with physical appearance – as long as it isn't one's only concern. Why do we have to limit ourselves to *just* outward beauty or *just* the inner kind? Why can't we be interested in, and stimulated by, both?

That is because most people 'judge a book by it's cover' This is a fact. If you want to change things start looking past the outside into the inside. A lot of people won't give an ungly, fat, pimple faced girl or boy a second look. This is the sad truth about society. But remember that society is made up of people like you so we should each try and change ourselves. And that is the end of my sermon. lol

It's because they care too much about what everyone else thinks. Since everyone can see their "outward" appearance from a distance, they choose to work on that more than their "inward beauty".

Absolutely! But here's the thing...it isn't always their fault...and don't assume they do not possess inner beauty; if they happen to be well-coiffed...as we live in a world that often evaluates us by our personal appearance...and it is our responsibility to lend some common sense to all of it...but unfortunately, saying it doesn't always change it...so until then, it often becomes a necessary evil.

I am very encouraged by the general consensus that this nonsense has to stop....so in a way...you just helped by presenting your question...for there are far more that agree on this issue than most would have you believe. We are bombarded by false images daily. It's time to "get real"...and send these messages to advertisers and media mongols.

You are absolutely right. People care more about their outward appearance because we are a country easily bought by advertising.
The big companies tell us that if we look good we will feel good to sell us products. We buy the stuff but we are still not happy because stuff won't make you happy, but that's not what the advertisers tell you. They tell you'll be happy if you buy this new thing. And it keeps going.

I agree we should care alot more about what we look like on the inside. I believe that most people are shallow and the judge based on your appearance because that is what is most important to them. For me, if the person is beautiful on the outside and has a bad personality then I don't want him. Who want to spend their life with a jerk.

it's a beautiful question. yah u are right every one is more particular about their outside beauty not inside. this is because generally people don't get involved in the matters with their heart and soul. even though they know that inner beauty is more important they don't have the dare to look into their own self because of many reasons. i think the fear to look in to their selves is the major reason for this. but i am not of that kind.
