The database that holds information about component locations, users, groups, passwords, security, and other COM information. Some of this information is currently stored in the Registry, but will eventually (with Windows 2000) be moved to the Active Directory.

Active Directory is a Windows(r) feature that allows all of the user details and group policies in a certain network of computers to be stored on a single(or multiple) server. This allows a user login to any PC and still view the same screen he would on his/her own PC (same applications,background, etc.) Pretty cooL!
