Benitez is a wiseman.he perfect for 4 3 3 and not 4 4 2 or 4 5 1 formation which r his preferred combinations so he didnt think of money much since Livpool have ample money

Nah, he's not stupid. In case you haven't noticed, Liverpool already have some excellent left wide players to choose from: Harry Kewell, Mark Gonzalez, Fabio Aurelio, John Arne Riise, Stephen Warnock, Bolo Zenden... The three defenders can also play a level up.
So, Liverpool can buy Duff, but there are too many ppl in the left midfield position...
What we really need is a right midfield man, which is why Benitez has bought Pennant, even if I'm not too happy with this choice...

Duff chose Newcastle, the Owen decision for 18 milion now looks to be good business. Is Benitez stupid, yes maybe to get that Liverpool team to win the European Cup he must really have no idea at all !!!

Benitez is one of the cleverest managers around and I am not a Liverpool fan!
Owen was finished and Duff is rubbish, do you think Chelsea would discard a good player and when did Newcastle ever pay for a good player..
(The Great Alan Shearer aside he only wanted Newcastle)

The price was £5 million for Newcastle but would've been substantially higher if LFC were actually interested. Chelsea leaked that LFC were interested even though we never actually made a bid, LFC were happy not to deny the story in the hope that it would panic Seville/Birmingham into lowering their prices for Alves and Pennant respectively. Newcastle actually ended up paying a lot more as they also paid out the remainder of Duffs Chelsea contract directly to him (£3.5m) but as this was not officially part of the transfer fee they didn't have to report this to the stock exchange.

The question should be why is Jermaine Pennant worth £1.7million (rising to £3million) more than Damien Duff.

Absolute lunacy! Duff has a proven track record of being a quality Premiership footballer.

Pennant has a proven track record of being an absolute (insert expletive here), as well as a cocky, arrogant bad-boy with and over-inflated opinion of himself!

Liverpool fan all his life? He said on signing for arsenal that he had never been out of Nottingham, so this was a really big move for him!

And what has Owen done at St James Park. Any Manager who can win the Champions League is no fool so you can be assured Rafa did not think Duff was good enough.

i don't think benitez is stupid for not signing duff i'm a newcastle fan and believe that lpool are already a step closer to winning the league without him you've got a class act in bellamy as long as he keeps his mouth shut also it was duffs wallet that told him to come to newcastle erm i mean heart yeah right thats how we got owen as well paying daft wages.

I think he would have gone for duffer had he not got Gonzalez. He has to be seen to be believed, you wil lnot be disappointed, he is as good as duff if not better. SO much so that Hairy Kewell better watch himsel or he wil lnot be first choice. As a fellow red, I am ecstatic that this guy will be wearing the red of liverpool.

And with Harry kewell as well. We are sorted in the leftt wing department.

The mind boggles with midfield combos with Stevie G, Alonso, Sissoko, Gonzalez, Kewell, Garcia, Pennant to pick from. Plus a couple of youngsters coming through, we should be up there thsi year!
