Google earth is poor nation/man's satellite working for free. When the so-called superpowers has the ability to send spy satellite to get the mapping done for their own use only, then why restrict others from having some semblance to the spy-satellite's images, though those are not as accurate.
It is like 'socialism' in terms of world-mapping and everybody get chance to view the earth almost at par with each other. Why get offended, rather the offender can not hide their WMD or similar things which are in a way good deterrent.

It will affect the security of all the countries. Just imagine if the terroist just used google earth picture, they can easily find where are the key targets they will be hitting. They don't even need to go to physically to take photos etc. Once this sort of things happened ppl will live in fear. It affect the life style of everybody and everybody will be parnoid on seeing suspicious items. It don't help us at all.

Its definately not because the pictures displayed are quite old, in my experience some areas's screen shots are even more than two yrs old. Second thing is this information is already with the defence department of every country pressumably more detail and updated. so publishing this information does not seem to be a threat to security.

There are commercial real time sat. photos available to anyone who wants to pay the price. Any country that has an effective military. Has taken sat. observations into account ever since the first ones went aloft.

google earth is not live, nor does it show every single country or area, some areas are not covered, so I personally dont think it will cause any problems

Were it updated in real-time, there would certainly be severe security implications. As it is, with a delay of several months, I think it is being stretched out of proportion.
