personally I have had no luck with USB to Legacy converter cables or boxes. I have several USB-2-Serial and USB-2-Parallel cables and the Belkin series of boxes. None work correctly all the time. Many cause the "blue screen of death". All suck in my opinion. I went to wired ethernet adapters for my Serial and parallel printers. The one I have had luck using is the AirLink+ printer server. I also like any of the HP wired printer servers (ES-300) for ease and reliability. They are also cheap on eBay now a days.

USB to parllel converter can not do everything that a simple parallel port can do. It is possible that some printer it will not support.
