to the e-trash bin somewhere in the sky...

On many computers, to "delete" a file does not actually remove the evidence of the file from the drive. It merely changes a label in the front of the file data so that the computer will not access it, as it is "deleted"

This file then appears in the Trash or Rubbish Bin section, but can easily be restored.

However, if it is removed and over-written, then it is harder to reconstruct it.

There are some programs available which will more thorougly erase the data (as in the case of sensitive - secret or personal - data)

Not too knowledgeable about IT, however, I believe that they do not actually go away, but into a deleted section and actually can be retrieved, so be careful, there are a lot of celebrates that have fallen down this hole. And it ain't a black one that they thought it was!

It depends, If they were in the hard disk of your PC, they will go to the recycle bin of your PC and you can recover them again, but if is not, they will be just deleted and you will not get them any more (server and diskettes by by)

The files are marked on the disk as no longer there and overwritable, but the data is still available for recovery by specialist software if need be, unless it gets overwritten
