Generally, you have the choice of being optimistic or pessimistic. When you get up in the morning you can make that choice. You can choose to have a wonderful day or a miserable day.
Optimism comes from hope and the confidence that you can perservere. Don't dwell on the events of life, focus on how you deal with the events.
If you suffer a tremendous amount of negative feelings, think of suicide or feel like you just don't care anymore then see a doctor. If you are manic depressive you need help because there is some chemistry gone wrong in you body that is affecting you.
Start with simple goals and reach them. If you have 30 little chores to get done, pick 5 that you can do and do them. Tomorrow you may have the 25 plus a couple more, but keep doing it and as you have those little successes you will feel better and more optimistic. A simple goal may be something in the nature of washing your car, cleaning a room, cutting the lawn, getting a homework assignment done, completing a simple project at work, going up and greeting a person you've wanted to meet. Don't worry about perfect results, just do it. As time goes on you can tackle bigger and bigger goals. Remember the big goals are made up of a lot of little goals, usually.
I know someone who was depressed because he said he would never have a pension or good retirement and he gave a million reasons why he wouldn't. I told him to start using his 401k at work. He was skeptical, but he did do it. He we celebrated his first thousand dollars, then the second and the next and so on. He also began finding ways to put more money into the 401K. We were soon celebrating every ten thousand dollar mark and soon began celebrating the hundred thousand dollar marks. It's been about 15 years now, but guess what, he has over 750k now even after using some of the money to work toward a college degree and buy his first house. He earns a little more than the average wage, but that means nothing if you don't do something about it. He started out with a menial wage but the degree helped him get two promotions down the road and he is not nearly as concerned with his retirement. He is very optimistic about that now.
If you do nothing, be a pessimist. If you do something and keep plugging away at it, be an optimist.

Yes. First of all, try to disregard the things that you might care about, but do not touch you directly.
Then, look at your own situation, and see what you yourself can do to improve it. Wanna bet it is possible? Don't rely on others, but on your own inner strength.
