I tend to think "marriage" is about love and devotion.

Yea, SOME marriage might be about procreation, but not all.
Yea, SOME (not all) G and L's enjoy anal sex, but so do SOME heteros.
Yea, SOME people are religious and don't eat pork, etc, but not everyone. Some are militant atheists who pay taxes too.

So, isn't "love and devotion" the main objective and premise of marriage between two adult human beings who voluntarily sign up for it?

I would think so. I don't really get people who are so hatefully against gay marriage, to tell you the truth. I've always been a "live and let live" kind of person. As long as you're not hurting anyone, do what you like, when you like, with whom you like.

I don't know who said it but one of my favorite quotes goes something like, "Your right to extend your fist ends where someone else's face begins". Which is really just another way of saying, do what you want, but harm none.

So from that standpoint, the whole argument against gay marriage seems silly and sad. I always wonder, when I hear people ranting against it, what they're lacking in their own lives.

Do they not have a loving family to occupy their time? Maybe they have no job, or pets, or hobbies, or meaningful ways to pass their time, so they feel the incessant need to interfere in other people's lives? It seems to me that people with full, happy, fulfilling lives, would not need to go out of their way to find reasons to harass other people and ruin their lives. At least that's my theory. "Idle hands do the devil's work"... and in this case, the devil's work is done by interfering with other people's lives, and imposing a belief system on them against their will.

As for the argument that it's not natural and that in order to survive as a species we must reproduce, well... I ask you this: what happens when any species over-produces? A good example is deer. The reason we have hunting season (which I hate, but understand) is that if you let the herd get too large, then the deer strip the land of all food, become more susceptible to disease, get very ill, infect the rest of the herd, die, etc. The worldwide human herd runs the same risks. Many heterosexual couples, my husband and I included, choose not to have children because of a number of different reasons. Is it wrong for us to be married, then, because we got married knowing with 100% certainty we would not produce children? I think not. Marriage is all about love, and spending your life with the person who completes your existance, makes you feel safe, and warm, and loved. I believe that marriage is about family. My husband and I, and our dogs, are a loving family. No one has the right to tell us we can't be a family. And why should we presume to tell gays that they can't have a family with the same legal protections that the rest of us enjoy either? If I go to the hospital, my husband can talk to the doctors, find out my condition, stay with me in the room... a gay couple has no such luxury. This is just one of the many problems that denying gay marriage causes.

Now, on the other hand, because marriage was originally instituted by the church, I suppose they have some claim to "keeping their magic rituals pure" or something... but at the same time, the government (which is in place soley for the sake of serving the public) also performs secular marriage ceremonies that are unrelated to the church. Which brings us to the next point for consideration: Separation of church and state.

Allowing religious groups to dictate state and federal laws is not acceptable. This country was founded on the very basic tenent of freedom of (or from) religion. So to say that something is immoral, unnatural, or against god, and should therefore be illegal, is actually directly against the basic beliefs that our country was founded on.

Just my two cents worth...

Yep, I agree with your thoughts on the matter. And NO I am NOT G/L. BUT I do support them to have rights as we do. I mean SHOW me the LAW that SAYS MAN MUST date, love marry a WOMAN. I know they BIG BROTHER wants to make a law banning G/L marraige. BUT this is just another step at our communism governemnt that we are all too quickly becoming.

no/sure - the rectum is NOT hooked up to the vagina or uterus so there is not any manner a lady can get pregnant if a man c*** within her a**. the ONLY manner a lady could get pregnant from anal intercourse is that if after the man ejaculates, the sperm leaks out, will get everywhere her, after which will get within her vagina and manages to journey all of the manner as much as the uterus to fulfill the egg. it is enormously not likely, however i suppose there's the threat if she permit it get everywhere her down there.

Apparently in the eyes of our government sex is the main component of marriage. Which is why our politicians are so adulterous.

g/l want to be accepted for somethin that is against nature. i dont need to quote any bible or god reference for that. the fact that they need a hetero couple to reproduce in order to have another g/l shows it is not natural. any species in nature meant to exist can reproduce itself. so i am not about to give them benefits because they want to live the way they do. i mena hey if they want to live that life. fine no problem. you wont hear anything from me. but to give them benefits m/f relationships have no way. it isnt about anal. again they can live however they want. but they dont deserve any benefits in accordance with something against nature. i will work with them and live next to them. but will not accept what they do as "normal".. just because there are so many does not make it right.

So, should I be able to marry more than one woman?
Should adults be allowed to marry children?
These are the next steps after you win your "rights".
Mark my words.
