Are you sure rabbits are digging? An odd question I know, but I have suffer from rabbits, but they ate my veg instead of digging. (I am assuming here we are talking about british rabbits - the only ones I have observed)
Why are they digging? they are lazy little vermin, and unless they are excavating burrows would rather eat than work. In this part of the world the lawns get small holes in, but this is caused by different animals at different times of the year. For example at this time of year foxes, badgers and corvids dig out chafer grubs. At other times jays bury and retrieve acorns.
It would be a shame to waste resource on the rabbits only to find that they were innocent (this time;-).

Sometimes you can buy a large plastic owl and place it on a stick in the yard, Owls are birds of prey and if a rabbit sees it he usually will not stick around to find out if it is real or not...works for me.

Used cat litter and your bathroom trash, they hate the smell.
Less disgusting, red peppers. Get a bunch of dried peppers, grind them up to 1/4 inch peices, and sprinkle them around, fairly thickly. It works for deer and squirrels too. Any hunting dog would help, too, if you are willing to get an energetic pet.
