I want to sell an unwanted upgrade mobile phone on ebay. Some say theyre 'unlocked'. what does this mean?

no unlocked just means it will take any sim card form any network rather than being locked to one ie: Orange or Vodaphone....people prefer an unlocked phone but it only costs about a tenner 2 get done so u can sell it as it is & still make money.....(it might already be able to take other sim cards so it might not need unlocking anyway)

an unlocked phone is a phone that can be used with any wireless carrier that uses a SIM card, it is better to have it unlocked because that means anyone on any network that uses SIM cards can use it, EX, Cinguar, Alltel, T Mobile

plus it will sell for more money,

If the phone is locked then it can only be used by the network you are on. If it is unlocked then any sim card can be put in it and used from any network

This just means that the phones for sale are open to most networks, and no you do not have to have your phone unlocked first, just state what network the phone is on.

If it is locked It means your phone will only work with your service provider. If you sell the phone to someone that also uses your service provider then the phone would work. There are independent cell phone companies that can unlock phones by reprogramming them.

It is not necessary to unlock your phone. Only when you sell it specify which network it is on.
Unlocked meas it can be used with any network. and accept any Sim card.
