No, not quite, but you're right: the Space Shuttle and all chemically-fueled rockets are practically Stone-Age technology (so is the internal-combustion engine, for that matter; sad to say, I own one of those in my car).

It's about time that we perfected nuclear- and ion-drive rocket engines for deep-space exploration, and started serious work on the Equatorial Geosynchronous Space Elevator that Sir Arthur C. Clarke wrote of in "The Fountains of Paradise," which will eventually render chemical rockets obsolete.
