Well, I'm not in my fifties (46y) yet, but with time running as fast as it does ... A lot depends on the guy's taste, and, of course, on how much you'd be willing to spend; some nice things on that special day are a bottle of good wine of the same year (1956); not likely to be anything near cheap! Or maybe you'd like to try ordering a copy of a newspaper from the guy's home town, dating back to his day of birth? Another rather nice "gimmick" is the number one song of the week he was born in on a cd. In most cases, a calculation on how many days he still has until retirement is NOT nice, though! How about something that resembles the '56 design style - if he's into that sort of thing? If he's interested in cars or motorbikes, a high-quality print, framed, of a specific '56 car or motorbike, or a '56 license plate of his home state might be a good idea. Hope this helps you some! Have a nice day!
