You're only fertile for about a 24 hour period. Track your ovulations and have sex like the day before and the day it says you're ovulating, if you're trying to get pregnant. Good luck.

No. If the ovulation test was right (and they're wrong an awful lot of the time!!), then it's too late. The egg only lives for a few hours, and it takes the sperm a few hours to get there. You need to have sex *before* ovulation in order to get pregnant.
There are a lot of myths in the answers you've gotten so far... First of all, you do *not* ovulate on day 14. The mythical "average woman" does--so if you want *her* to get pregnant, that information may be helpful!!
The egg does not live for 24 hours. That is the maximum time, but generally it's 6-12 hours.
And you are fertile *before* ovulation--the 2-5 days (different for different women) before ovulation is most likely time for sex that will result in pregnancy, although you only *get* pregnant once you ovulate from sperm that are waiting around. (In another sense, however, you only get pregnant a week or more later, when the fertilized egg starts implanting; until implantation, it isn't attached to your body in any way, so there are *no* physical changes in your body.)
And condoms are never 99% effective, either. They're only 98% effective in theoretical perfect use, and only 85% in actual use.
And, by the way, a positive on an ovulation predictor kit *doesn't* mean you're ovulating--it means that a stick full of pee *thinks* you will ovulate sometime in the next 2 days. If you got one or more negatives before the positive result and if you use one of the more sensitive tests (20 mIU. as opposed to 40 mIU.), it is more likely to be a day and a half to 2 days after the positive result. In either case, you wouldn't still be fertile 6 days after the positive test; the outside limit would be 3 days.

A postive on the test means you are going to ovulate with 24 to 36 hours. If you saw a positive on the 20th, you would have ovulated on the 21st or 22nd. Today (the 26th) would be too late. :(

Why don't you just use a condom? Used properly, they're effective over 99% of the time. And yes, they protect against STDs as well.
