I'm over 30 years old having adhd. I'm higly educated having a good profession as a primary school teacher. Is there other teachers having this lovely adhd? How do you feel about it? Usually students have it, how about opposite...

My husband has it, and he is a teacher (I'm a teacher too... but in my case it's purely being blonde...lol).

He's constantly struggling with paperwork, not getting stuff in on time, and his desk is always a disaster area. However his instruction is excellent, so he's "accomodated," with weekly administrator... "so where should this go" sessions, and paperwork checks.

At home... ahem... between his meds and me being as determined with him as I am with my own ADHD students... he gets stuff done. I teach Elementary Resource Room (K-5). I take care of detail paperwork, like our finances, too.

Students don't stop having it once they grow up. It never "goes away," you just learn how to "fake" your way through it.

Thank goodness for medication. He wouldn't be able to focus well enough to keep his job, or even keep his family, without it!

Although I haven't taught primary school, I have ADHD, and before I was diagnosed with it, I was a graduate student that was a teaching assistant. I remember that it could be a struggle to get grading done. I also conducted recitations and help sessions with students, and I can't help but wonder if I looked like I was an Arthur Murray patron. :-)

Obviously adult ADHD differs from childhood ADHD as adults have better control over their social impulses, but the underlying symptom is the same, an abnormal focusing function. It's something that's hard to regulate consistently. Sometimes I can't put my mind to a task, and others that all I can do.

I have to congratulate you on being able to have a good job. I never did finish grad school (couldn't focus on research), so I often wonder what if my ADHD had been diagnosed before or during grad school. I suppose that's a pointless exercise as what's past is past. Still, there's that little voice of despair in the back of my head regarding that.

Well, I don't know the psychological aspects about your special situation. I just would recommend you something:

Go for a manual one-time treatment called Atlasprofilax. The effect on the self-healing power of the body and mind is simply amazing - and with some luck you might rid of the symptoms completely.

I have experienced the same treatment for other symptoms, with great success.

At present, the treatment is available in California and Europe, costing about 200 Dollars. Good luck!
