well if i cant sleep i drink a glass of warm milk and read. I get very sleepy when reading, so i usually fall asleep fast! I'd suggest asking a doctor.

Well, first you should think about what do you think is causing this situation, maybe you worry too much about your work, or life or something in particular?... do you eat late at night?, do you watch TV before sleeping?, drink coffee during the day or any type of tea with caffeine?... so if any of these apply, try to stop doing them, step by step... all these things make you feel restless and not being able to sleep...
Anyway, it helps a lot that around 6, 7, 8 in the evening... you try to avoid things that can stress you, put for example some nice calm music that you like, not very loud, while enjoying a cup of tea that has herbs to make you relax (there are very nice ones out there)... and meditation as it was suggested is good, if you don't know how, you can just start by being in a nice comfortable place without noises and interruptions... if you like incense, burn some, so you create a nice atmosphere that help you leave away whatever else is going on in your life...
Then begin breathing through your nose slowly and exhale through your mouth... listen how you breath, focus on that and if other thoughts come along, just let them pass, don't go with them though... feel the air you breathe going through all your body, visualize it... is nice, and it will make you feel great!!... do it as often as you like, specially before going to bed...
And you will be sleeping fantastic before you think about it :)

Go to bed & wake up at the same time every night. Don't drink caffeine after 3 pm or alcohol after 6 pm. Don't use your bed for anything except sex or sleep. Don't do computer work or watch TV in bed. Exercise during the day. Meditate & do breathing exercises B4 bed. I learned all this from a pamphlet my Dr. gave me. Ask your Dr. or Hospital & they'ss give you a printed version of this info. If that doesn't work you need to spend the night in tha Hospital & participate in a sleep study, 8pm - 6 - am. You might have sleep apnea like me. It can be bad for your heart & affects many other aspects of your life. Weight gain, mental health. I sleep w/ a CPAP machine & I love it. I should have got it 5 yrs. ago. Do something now! Don't wait.

have a swedish relaxation massage done during the day. Also keeping a journal of all the things that pop into your mind when you lay in bed helps to let it go so you can sleep. Make sure you get enough sun light during the day too:)

It shouldn't be to difficult to sleep. Here are my tips:
1. go to bed when you are really tired
2. don't drink alcohol or coffee before going to bed
3. relax 1 hour before going to bed - you can't sleep when you had a stressful day
4. cool down your bedroom and open the windows to get fresh air
5. when you can't sleep within 30 mins get up and do something
6. go only to bed when you are really tired
sleep well! :-)

Relaxation techniqes. All stimulation has to be shut out, like noise, light, etc. Then, use lavendar sheet spray, or a lavendar eye pillow to relax your senses. Think of a chalkboard, then erase it until it's black and you should fall asleep.

make your bed room dark. avoid intake of coffee, tea etc after dinner. avoid spicy foods in your dinner. late night dinners to be avoided. try Jacobson's relaxation techniques or meditation. take one cup of warm milk before going to sleep. check whether you have hypertension, diabetes or any psychological problems. make comfort your bed. lack of physical strain to the body also causes insomnia.
