Hello there,
First things first, Firefox is a browser. Now you may say what is a browser. A browser is a software with the help of which we can surf on the net.
And you know what I am an avid lover of Mozilla Firefox and I don't give a damn about Internet explorer.

Firefox is spreading by leaps and bounds and I can assure you that after using it for a week, You can't live without it. I has many addons i.e features that make browsing fun and easy, I have to mention this particular addon called STUMBLE UPON, It's a software that gives you an all new experience of surfing. Moreover from the security point of view too, Mozilla Firefox beats other browsers. Hope to c u in the list of Mozilla lovers soon.

Mozilla Firefox is a web browser, which is part of the open-source Mozilla project. One of the most popular browsers, after Internet Explorer.

Firefox stems from the Netscape browser, which was soundly trumped by IE in the browser wars of the late 1990s, when Microsoft developed IE and gave it away for free. Netscape continued to evolve into a very large and somewhat bloated application, which was turned into the open source Mozilla project.

Firefox received rave reviews and caused much notoriety. Within a few months, millions downloaded it, and by mid-2005, Firefox captured more than 10% of the Web browser market, a huge gain in such a short time. Many view it as a safer alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) browser, which is constantly being attacked.

Whether Firefox is safer because it was designed better than IE or simply because very few hackers have a quarrel with open source software, is an on-going debate.

your internet explorer is what we call a browser and so is mozilla firefox. Unlike IE (internet explorer) mozilla has the capability to block pop-ups automatically without installing any other software, it can also protect you somehow with viruses while browsing.

With IE, if you need to open 10 websites, you need to launch 10 windows of Internet explorer. But with mozilla, you only open 1 window and then open 10 'tabs' inside it - you actually don't have to clog your screen with windows of the websites.

these are just 2 key difference - there are more to it.
try mozilla!

Mozilla and Firefox are browsers that are based on Netscape code.

Download and take a look.
I believe that IE gives the best interpretation of HTML.
Netscape on the other hand has very good debugging facilities.

I have noticed some annoying bugs in Firefox though.

Firefox is an internet browser in the same way as Internet Explorer. However, it is not exactly the same. It has more features, particularly useful is the use of Tabs for more than one page open at a time. It is developed from source code which is open to development by the community at large. It is inherently more secure than Explorer, but as it gets more popular it is attracting more hackers and crackers to exploit it. Nonetheless it is fast, well presented and very easy to skin, add extensions to, and customise to your preference.

The Microsoft bashers like it because it is better than Microsoft's own offering (although the new beta for IE shows they are trying to catch up) and it isn't by Microsoft which has to be in their eyes a good thing in itself.

I use both browsers for different types of browsing. Try it, it is easy to install and easy to remove.

they are all competing browsing products.. there are several of em like IE, Mozilla Firefox, Opera.. Firefox is an open source browser , which means that it is developed by volunteers for free..not by any company.. You can get its source code, and modify it, create your own browser and sell it if you want to..
AS to what is best and what is not, one cannot really say.. its personal preference lady.. Nothing offers more user friendly features like IE .. and you get a lot of help too.. as the person before me said, IE will work everywhere but these newbies like mozilla , etc might not work in certain sites..

Firefox is a stand alone "internet explorer" in much the same way as "I.E.". However it allows tabbed browsing, has a number of plug ins and extensions you can add on to do special things for you. It has been safer than IE 6, better security and seems less prone to attack by hackers. The companion programme Thunderbird is also a very good email programme (not web based - but independant like Outlook express).

Excellent software, free, go enjoy. You should perhaps look at open office, this too is a very good programme, free and much like microsoft office. http://www.openoffice.org

Have fun!

Firefox is an open source browser from mozilla. It is different from IE by giving tabbed interface.

It has less security issues, you can change the theme, add all kinds of extensions and plugins, and it has a great pop-up blocker. There are a few sites that won't display properly in firefox, but the IE tab option in takes care of that.
