Ask her, she may not even know that she is doing it. Some people just have a naturally selfish personality. That doesn't make them a selfish person, they just sometimes do selfish things with out knowing it. So call her on it. If you are really that close, she'll appreciate your straight forwardness.

Don't worry about it. She's just having a moment - you know, moment to just be silent and alone in her thoughts. Actually, I go thru the same moments too. Most often than not, I talk a lot. My best friend (who happens to be my colleague and roomie) and I just don't run out of topics to talk and laugh about. But there are certain days that I don't talk much or even stay silent for almost the whole day. I only speak when spoken to. I even put on my earphones and just listen to the music in order to blot out my surroundings. Normally, those are the times I feel down or I have a lot going on in my mind.
My best friend knows it when I'm in this mood. She just lets me be. She knows it has nothing to do with her and that I just want my lone time. When I get back to my usual perky self, that's when she tries to talk to me about it, that is IF she sensed that the reason for the silence was a problem. Other than that, she just lets me be and I really appreciate her more for that. Perhaps, you can practice the same way with your friend.

um do you mean during the conversation she stops talking and ignores you?? that's weird. I knew a girl who was a friend of one of my friends. Except she was only her friend sometimes, and only her friend when no one else was around. She acted like she was embarrassed to have her as a friend. She would actually ignore her if she saw her in public.

One possibility is Attention Deficit disorder, I find myself doing the same thing around my family although I haven't been positively diagnosed with the disorder. It's difficult for me as well, but if you just hang in there I think your friendship will flourish.
