With the steady decline of civil rights, the increase in fundamentalist bullshit thinking and the rise of propaganda news like fox news, who thinks the US is taking the fascist path? Or, why not?

I don't know about being Fascist although we certainly exhibit many of those signs I tend to believe we will be become a oligarchy with the Supreme Court. It has already began with the court basically making Laws, enforcing Laws and Judging the if the laws are constitutional (constitutional by their standards not the actual document) I wonder if the Justices have even read the Constitution. anyways definitely an Oligarchy

Excuse me? The President already vetos laws passed in accordance with democratic principles and amends others .
The US Country Report on Human Rights has long been used by human rights activists as proof of infringements throughout the world, and now we know why. 'It takes one to know one'.

New Orleans received little help after Hurricane Katrina and what they did receive was much too late. But then most of those who couldn't leave the area were Afro-americans.

In 20 years I'll be 82, but I don't have to wait that long for the USA to become fascist. It's already happened!

1.) Powerful and Continuing Nationalism: Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.2.) Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights: Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.3.) Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause: The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.4.) Supremacy of the Military: Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized........yes we are there already

The applaing treatment of their ethnicities, laws against migrants that keep the country running and generally despotic behaviour including eroding the foundations of their education by teaching religion as a science, keeps the US on the steady descent into a facist state.

N.B. the nazis did most of what Bush is allowing, think about that.

Why wait 20 years? The US is fascist already

For the reasons you have given, we are already well on our way. If Osama Ben Ladan's objective was to uproot America's values and way of life, he is winning big time.
Guilt rests with the Republicans and the right; shames lies with the Democrats and the left. One is executing the policies leading to a fascist state; the other is allowing them to.

You don't have to look any further than the good old UK to find a fascist state. Our laws (at least 70 %) are made by unelected foreigners, the BBC promotes anything to do with Europe and denigrates any opposition to it, anyone trying to oppose the government (however lawfully) is silenced by our police force. Do I need to go on?

Practically is already.
Arrest without charge, rigged elections, media under the thumb of the government, government contracts going to cabinet's pals, religious intolerance,
Shucks, they've even got a combined Head of State and Government - not unlike the position of Fuhrer.
Like someone else said give it 10-years and they might just make it formal.

I think it already is in some ways. I have studied some areas of the American elite society that makes me physically sick.

For proof visit the following websites (ONLY IF YOU ARE OVER 21 AND DON'T HAVE A WEAK STOMACH)

www.letsroll911.org (and watch the documentary that was banned by congress)

www.video.google.com (and type trance formation in the search bar)

Please do not vist these sites unless you have a very strong stomach.

They will blow your mind.

I think the consensus is that it is already a long way down that path - if Dubbya can be elected again it says a helluvalot about Joe average attitudes.

Especially when you consider how few Americans actually even own passports, if you watch their 'world' news, or look at their attempts at foreign policy...(Anywhere outside of the US/Canada/UK is dubbed 'here be dragons')
