My HOD is a very patient, observant person. He is also a great great listener for the customers and the employees. However, a number of senior staffs under him are very aggressive, blunt and ill-mannered. What is wrong?

Is this your head of department ? If senior staff is undermining him it's a sign that he chooses bad senior staff. A man who chooses bad right hand men is doomed. A Brigadier General who couldn't be trusted by a Major General is a placement of weakness and the fault of the Major. You don't promote men because they need a raise or there wife is pretty. The reason they don't follow is because he appointed the wrong men/women to power. He's to placating, he allows more then he demands, he abides unwarranted insult, he's passive dependent and lives by their presence so he refuses to challenge it. As long as they produce their respect for him isn't relevant. He's not leading the troops he's deferring to incompetents. Pretend like you don't like him and you'll advance cause he needs approval.

Well,in more general terms everyone has to pay for his/her bad deeds...Now maintenance of discipline should be a must in any official environment for that matter. One does not realise that he/she wouldn't like to be treated the way they treat others. It wouldn't be pleasing to you if you were treated so..isn't it? Being ill-mannered or passing bad comments all shows your own true nature..you should really feel sorry for such people..Or if you dare to do take up the first step to oppose such a thing and see the result for yourself..a learning experience ..you see...

lololol , I'm sorry this question applies to such a higher scale than an office. its what has happened to Christianity. Jesus taught love and compassion for all, and his teachings have been so bastardized that he would no longer recognize them. that's what happens when the followers become egocentric, greedy and power-hungry. they change things to fit their narrow view-point (king james bible ex.) and make themselves irreplaceable. the church did this with priests, you don't need them to have a direct contact with god, but the church leads you to believe you do.................lololol a little far afield for office politics but applicable.

It sounds like the lack of adult supervision. It is time for a shake-up.
