The brothers, Rudolf and Adolf Dassler created the first sport shoe "Addidas". For awhile, they got along great, Rudolf being the mastermind behind sales and Adolf behind the construction of the shoes. When the Olympics came to Germany, so did the American Jesse Owens and Adolf was excited to get the shoes tried out. Rudolf wasn't happy that his brother went behind his back, so at that point, the split occurred with Rudolf and his sales team moved to Würzburgerstrasse while the technicians went with Adolf and his wife.
In April, 1948, the split was finalised. Adolf got the patent on the "Addidas" name while Rudolf registered the name of "Puma."
Quote, "The rift between the two Dassler brothers tore apart their family, setting the scene for an ongoing feud over the coming decades. At the same time it deeply divided Herzogenaurach, with the Aurach River acting as a liquid partition between Rudolf’s supporters on one bank and Adolf’s on the other. It became known as the town where people always looked down, because they were careful to note which shoes someone was wearing before starting a conversation."
