Make sure the pods/ seeds are completely dry so they don't rot or mildew. It won't make any real difference if you leave the seeds in the pods or take them out. If you do leave them in the pods, you'll want to take them out before you plant them. Store them in whatever you've got available - envelopes work fine; commercial seeds come in paper packets, after all. Label your envelopes or whatever you use so you know what you've got come planting time.
If you live in a mild climate, you could even plant the seeds directly in the ground when they are dry and have a head start for next year. I just north of San Francisco, and I have good luck planting sweet peas in late summer/ early autumn for bloom late next winter and into early summer.

If you want to use them next year, make sure they are dry, then put them in a tight container and keep them in a cool, dark place.

I use old medicine bottles and small jelly jars.
