First of all I am very sorry this happened to you! I am an operating room nurse and in Australia we are very careful about this and if it happened you could definitely seek compensation. What it depends on is what was written on your operation consent form (you really do have to read the fine print!) that you signed. Most surgeons will say what operation they are going to perform on you then also list what else they may have to do if there are complications (for example if you are having gynaecology surgery and the cant stop the bleeding they may have to remove your uterus). It's illegal to remove organ parts during an operation not consented too. You need to call the Bar Association of lawyers, who can help you find someone with this kind of experience.
