Dreadfully a lot. They are non-biodegradable, thus taking up a lot of space. When burnt, they give off poisonous gases which can kill. Some inconsiderate people do not dispose them properly and animals may choke to death when they eat them, or worse still, die painfully after eating it. One of plastic's ingredient is oil, which is non-renewable and in short supply. Indirectly it leads to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Meaning to say, the ozone layer becomes so thin that there are holes, melting the polar ice caps, causing the sea level to rise.

plastic bags are poisoness having toxic materials. they are made up of petrol & are thus carbon compounds, but have many other components as well. they cause land degradation, they emit toxic gases which can even cause cancers, supports global warming, can block sewages and other water bodies. when dumped in water bodies cause enormous damage to aquatic animals. they are non-biodegradable. but there many uses also and some of scientists are finding ways by which the plastic bags will no longer remain non-biodegradable.
